5 Reasons + 5 Ways to Connect with Others

We need cooperation and understanding now more than ever. We live among a large and growing group of diverse people. We need more leadership, communication and connection.

The skill of “connecting easily with others” is one of the 40 skills I have identified as critical to leadership success.

5 Reasons to Learn to Connect with Others

People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. When you can show you care – they will begin to listen.

Maybe you’ll learn something new if you connect with others — like compassion, understanding and acceptance.

You’re going to have to interact with these people on some level — wouldn’t it be better to connect — unless you want to go be a hermit deep off the grid…

Maybe you’ll even find a new friend, or acquaintance or a kindred spirit.

Maybe you’ll be less angry or isolated or cynical about the world in which we live.

5 Ways to Connect

Be of service to others — focus on others not yourself for a moment.

Put your ego aside — be humble and vulnerable.

Be more flexible and open-minded.

Ask good questions and be genuinely curious.

Quiet your mind — you can’t connect with someone unless you can suspend all the internal dialogue.

Learning to connect with others is important. It’s on the 40 Skills Assessment that is a part of our Leadership and Succession Planning Playbook. Pete Walsh is a demanding, courageous and playful Master Certified Coach in Phoenix, Arizona. He is the founder of Peak Workout Business Coaching and the Family Business Performance Center.
