I love watching and learning from the Olympic athletes. In business so many professionals talk a good game but events like the Olympics show us that truly great performances come from hard work and dedication to practice. Oh by the way, I’m pretty sure most of those Olympic athletes have a coach that provides them support, feedback and encouragement along the way.
The road to greatness comes from something called deliberate practice. Deliberate practice was proven over a 20-year period as the key differentiator between being a champion and being a wannabe.
Deliberate practice stretches you past your current capacity and is designed to help you get measurably better in very specific activities. For business professionals there are deliberate practices you can take on in terms of communication, listening, collaboration and self-management.
As the Olympics end, take inventory of yourself and your business team and think about how your team practices and how they’re going to get better and win a gold medal.
Here’s a short video I just made today that tells you about how one particular family won a gold medal recently. It’s a minute and a half video I think you’ll enjoy.
Play to your potential!
